Bird Brush 100  “Memory of the Line”

The moment of writing becomes a memory.

Bird Brush 100 “Memory of the Line” records the movement of brush and body through video, presented alongside calligraphic works. It was exhibited in 2012 at the Centre d’Art Cal Massó in Reus, Spain, during the artist’s world journey, marking a significant milestone in the series.

Exhibition View — Bird Brush 100: “Memory of the Line”

During a journey around the world, works written with one hundred bird-feather brushes, accompanied by video, were exhibited.
Like fragments of memory suspended in space, lines and records quietly intersected.

In the Bird Brush 100: “Wind” series, the same single character was written with one hundred different brushes, making visible the variations in line unique to each.
In the present exhibition, Memory of the Line, words were chosen to accompany each brush, composing lines that resonate with their meaning.
Every work is paired with video, quietly recording the very “moment” of its creation.

Calligraphy is often described as an “art of the moment.”
Yet what remains is only the trace left after the act of writing.
Memory of the Line seeks to preserve—through both brush and moving image—the time of writing, the movement of the brush, and the intangible presence that dwells in the intervals between strokes, those invisible elements that inhabit the work.
