Calligraphy course
Q. I don't understand the difference between the "calligraphy course" and other courses.
A. The same characters are used as motifs, and the tools (brushes, ink, etc.) used are also the same, so in fact, most people think that they are the same. However, in modern times, the way and roles of characters are diversifying. Therefore, what you learn will change depending on your purpose.
In the "Penmanship Course", you will learn the characters that are properly arranged. In the "Practical Book / Brush Cultivation Course", you will learn the characters to convey accurately, such as signboards. In the "Calligraphy Course", you will learn how to write classical works. You will learn history and ideas as well as techniques.
Q. I want to be able to write everyday characters beautifully, but is it impossible to take only the calligraphy course?
A. Of course it is possible. However, calligraphy not only writes so-called "pretty characters" that are generally imagined, but also has various expressions such as historical background and individual spirituality and artistry. Knowing and tasting them is one of the pleasures of calligraphy, not necessarily the purpose of writing "pretty characters". Therefore, if your main purpose is to write beautifully the characters you use in your daily life, we recommend that you take the "Practical Book / Brush Cultivation Course". In addition, the "Penmanship Course" is recommended for those who want to teach penmanship (penmanship) in the future.
Q. I want to study all genres and want to take each course at the same time. Is it possible?
A. Of course it is possible. Although they are different genres, they are closely related to each other, so learning from various angles will give you a deeper understanding.
Q. Is it possible to change the course on the way?
A. you can't. Each course consists of 8 to 18 assignment menus. It is possible to change the course after completing them.
Q. I am an experienced calligrapher and would like to learn kana. Do I have to take the basic course from the regular script?
A. Please be sure to take the course from the regular script. Kana originally consists of Chinese characters. By learning Chinese characters and learning kana, you can deepen your understanding. Even if you are an experienced person, the points of instruction content will differ if the instructor is different. Therefore, since the skill level you want to acquire is different, you need to take the instruction content of this classroom from the beginning. In the lessons, the teaching method changes according to the level of the students, so even experienced people can learn with a fulfilling content.
Q. Is there a promotion?
A. There is none. It is independently set by each calligraphy organization and is not a common guideline in calligraphy.
For example, let's say you have a calligraphy class called A, aiming for promotion, and after many years, you finally get a high rank. However, due to some circumstances, I decided to study in a calligraphy class called B. However, in Class B, the dan level obtained in Class A is not applied, and it is treated as a beginner, and the learning so far is wasted, and I often hear such stories that made me very sad and regrettable. In fact, it is natural that each organization has different teaching methods and promotion systems. I sincerely hope that you will value your own pace and individuality, and that you will surely learn more universal and learning calligraphy techniques.
Q. I want my child to learn calligraphy. Do you teach your child?
A. I'm sorry. This calligraphy class is for "adults". Also, there is essentially no "children's calligraphy". It refers to "penmanship". "Penmanship" is studied in the Japanese language department of elementary and junior high school, and "Calligraphy" is studied in the art department of the elective subject of high school.
In the "Penmanship Course", you can also learn the skills to "teach children", so you can do it at home for your own children and grandchildren We also recommend teaching "penmanship" as an emotional education.
Q. I haven't written an example, why?
A. Can you reproduce the characters you wrote yourself exactly? For example, the condition of the ink changes depending on the feeling when writing the character, the movement of the brush at the moment, and the weather and humidity on the day of writing, and the quality of the line also changes. Even if you are a teacher, the conditions do not change. In other words, it is impossible for the teacher to reproduce the model written by the teacher. Even a teacher has to say that it is a wrong teaching method to "reproduce" a different model each time you write, let alone a different type and state of tools used, and for those who are going to learn calligraphy. not. (Originally, the relationship between the teacher and the disciple was closer than it is now, and it was possible to deal with each individual. However, in recent years, in order to teach all at once to many people, it is good to write just like a model for convenience. It has become.)
So what should we do? The answer is very simple. It is to learn by using the classics as a model. After thousands and hundreds of years, it is still learning from the classic calligraphy history that never fades. The classic masterpieces have a universal beauty that has been culled out and cherished over the years. The classic characters do not change. History proves its value. (However, there are classics that beginners should learn and classics that should be watched. Learning calligraphy requires correct knowledge, which you will also learn in practice.)

Practical book / brush cultivation course
Q. What should I learn from?
In this course, you will first learn hiragana. Hiragana is only 46 characters, so you can learn it immediately and feel a sense of accomplishment. Moreover, 70% of the Japanese notation is hiragana, so you can immediately feel that you have improved.
Also, the brushstrokes for hiragana and kanji are different. There are 2136 common kanji characters (revised in 2010), and the brush usage of kanji can be roughly divided into 8 types (eight principles of eternal characters). However, it is better to practice more characters in order to learn the rules and patterns of Chinese character modeling.
Q. How do you learn?
The way of learning is different for each person. Find and practice the best method for each, such as pace and amount of practice.
In addition, in this course, tasks are decided each time. Please submit it within the monthly deadline. The assignments are based on the stage, and the content is such that you can practice more than a certain amount without fail. You will be asked to review the characters you are not good at, so if you notice it, you will improve naturally.
(The schedule for submitting assignments varies depending on the start date (application date) of each student. Details will be announced at the time of application.)
Q. Where do you learn?
You can practice anywhere, anytime. You can practice at your favorite time and place at your own convenience, such as at home or at work.
You can easily practice the tasks without taking up space because you will download and print the A4 size practice sheet.
Q. When can I start?
You can start immediately after applying. Also, the more you write the brush character, the better it will be. In other words, the sooner you start, the more time you spend learning letters. Therefore, we recommend that you start right now.
Q. What tools should I prepare?
For practical book practice, it is enough to have a small brush, ink, and a small plate.
No other special tools are needed.
Also, the paper used for practice is the copy paper used at home.
Q. Is it unnecessary to polish the ink?
Of course, it is better to polish the ink with solid ink. In the past, most of the paper used in formal practical books was Japanese paper that easily bleeds, such as Hosho paper, and the ink color used was dark ink that was thoroughly polished to prevent bleeding. However, in modern times, there are overwhelmingly many opportunities to write practical books on Western paper, and since Western paper does not suck ink, the ink does not bleed.
In other words, there is no need to polish the ink thickly. Rather, it is more rational to use ink because it uses foreign paper. First of all, we will practice using copy paper (Western paper) and ink so that you can concentrate on brush usage and writing practice.
Q. Can I use a brush pen?
The brush is originally made of animal hair, and the tip of the hair is not cut, but the first pointed hair that grows. This allows for various movements when writing with a brush. However, since all brush pens are not animal hair, the movement of the brush is stiff and you cannot fully enjoy writing with a brush. Therefore, it is recommended to use a brush for brush writing practice itself.
If you really need to use a brush pen, you should use it after you can control the elasticity with a brush.
Q. What should I use for the brush? Where can I get it?
Good brushes are sure to be available at calligraphy specialty stores. Look for it with a Japanese kana brush or a Chinese brush. Now you can get the brushes of specialty stores on the Internet right away.
(For information on how to choose a small brush, please refer to the first "10 free online courses for learning beautiful characters every day".)
There are various types of hair such as weasel, raccoon dog, and cat, and you can choose any of them. The price is also sharp depending on the type and brand of hair. Finding a brush that is easy for you to write will be one of the pleasures of writing.
By the way, in the case of a small brush for a practical book, you have one expensive one, and instead of continuing to use it, you don't have to keep using it, so you have several of the same brushes. , It will last longer if you use it in order.

"I felt the overflowing love and enthusiasm for the calligraphy. I am really grateful to meet such a wonderful teacher."
"This time, I was able to systematically learn about the position of penmanship in general in school education and the current situation of so-called penmanship classes outside the school. I think it was. "
"The materials for the online course are wonderful !!!!!! The passion for calligraphy by Professor Tsubasa, the desire to let everyone know, and the desire to have fun trying it out are conveyed from the content and the text of the presentation. To be honest, I was very excited. The presentation for foreigners was a very good learning not only for foreigners but also for myself first and foremost. "
"It was my first time to attend online, and I didn't really think about what it was like, but I listened to the teacher's lecture while looking at the materials on the screen, and the materials were very easy to understand, so I concentrated on it. The time had passed in a blink of an eye! Especially, by explaining the part of how to assemble the point strokes again, the contents that seemed to be understood and were vague became clear. "
"It's interesting because it's just the contents of the scales from the eyes. I'd like to tackle the problem carefully."
"Taking this lesson, my thinking about the existence of a" penmanship class for children "has changed considerably. As the teacher said in class, being involved in a part of your childhood in a blink of an eye in your life, and the importance and sense of responsibility that may affect the future. This perspective was completely clear before I took this course. Looking back on myself, it's true when I think that I can write like this now. Then, when I stop at such a task and look back, it seems that the purpose of the penmanship is to "write the characters neatly" on the surface, and the essence is to give the power to live. I also feel that there is such a possibility depending on the situation. "
